Indian Wedding ~ JW Marriott Desert Ridge ~ Scottsdale, Arizona

Every now and then, Arizona experiences a wedding that “paints the town red” and almost every other color imaginable in its palette.   And hands down, no one paints the town better than brides and grooms from Eastern Indian cultures.

Arizona’s warm sunny weather and pristine venues transform the desert into a special haven, especially for Eastern Indian weddings, enticing couples to invite their families from all over the globe to join them in celebrating their sacred marriages among the mountains and amazing flora.

Bride and physician Dr. Shalini Singh, who grew up in Flagstaff, and her groom, cardiologist Dr. Ankur Karnik, whose family is from New York, took advantage of hosting their wedding on the beautiful grounds of the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort, known for its excellence in Eastern Indian cuisine and cultural knowledge.  Shalini and Ankur brought their early November 2011 wedding to life with stunning colorscapes and cultural accents.

Their celebrations began with a Sangheet, a traditional dance party with a special theme.    The couple chose a Moroccan theme for this party, which was designed using teal and purple elements from the bride’s sari among the tables, pillows and sofas.

The morning wedding ceremony, which was held on the palm lined Isle of Capri at the Marriott, featured traditional red and gold colors symbolic of Indian weddings.  These spectacular traditions were accented by raspberry, rust and fuchsia, showing all Arizona brides that the use of color in our desert is an awesome thing.

The happy ceremony colors were carried into the evening reception where turquoise, the feature color in the bride’s dinner sari, was added to the room design in the form of crystal, linen, votive glass and a spectacular cake.

As you plan your wedding, remember that Arizona’s natural beauty is the perfect picture frame for a colorful celebration featuring your vision as a work of art in itself.   Images by Sameer Soorma
